Reliance Gear Company of Huddersfield has expanded its range of Reli-a-Flex® one piece couplings to include a high speed coupling that is a minute 6mm in diameter. The coupling is not only smaller than other one-piece micro couplings currently available, but also five times more radially compliant and twice as torsionally stiff. It gives two times less transmission error than a superficially similar coupling and lasts longer for a given torque.
The low inertia 6mm Reli-a-Flex® micro coupling comes in two versions, long (12.5mm) for greater offset capacity and short (9.35mm) for optimum miniaturisation. Made from Grade 7075-T6 aluminium alloy, the coupling significantly improves the life of a high-speed micro motor when coupled to the output shaft in a miniature drive system. It also improves the accuracy of the drive system as a whole.
Tested to 50 million cycles (long: 25 micron offset at 0.2Nm load and short: 10 micron offset at 0.2 Nm load) without failure, the component is of great benefit to design engineers working with any high-speed application in the medical equipment, scientific instrument or precision optic markets.
